In a surprising move related to the App Store's 10th anniversary last year, Apple has revived the classic "Texas Hold'Em" game for the iPhone. As noted by 9to5Mac, version 2.0 of this game was released on the App Store today. Apple says it has completely redesigned, rebuilt, and changed the game to use high-resolution graphics, and add new characters, more challenging gameplay, and many other new features.

Texas Hold'em is basically the same as the previous version. Each player gets two personal cards and up to five community cards to collect five winning card cards, producing chips to unlock additional casino locations including Roppongi, Las Vegas, and Macau. Although there is a single player mode where you only select local, multiplayer mode includes more than 140 different digital characters - possibly including Apple employees - which may or may not explain why the application is now 1.5GB in size. Apple actually released Texas Hold'em back in 2006 - before the App Store even existed. It was originally available for the iPod before the iPhone card shark could get it in 2008. Apple pulled the game from the App Store in 2011.

Apple is making a concerted effort to bring more quality games to its platform with the launch of a subscription offer - Apple Arcade is expected to launch in the fall. This service will offer more than 100 games that can be played on iOS, iPad OS, Mac and Apple TV. Meanwhile iOS and tvOS versions that will come will bring Xbox and PlayStation gamepad support.
